A journey through modernism, architecture and India’s changing urban identity
December |10–12 Days | Premium Small-Group Journey

What happens when a European modernist vision meets the cultural landscape of India?

This journey explores the architectural legacy of Le Corbusier and modern India, travelling from Delhi to Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. Rather than looking at individual buildings in isolation, we explore the relationship between architecture, urban planning, culture, climate and the aspirations of a changing India.

The journey begins in Delhi, providing the historical and political context of the India into which modern architecture emerged. From here, we travel to Chandigarh, Le Corbusier’s extraordinary post-Independence urban experiment and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The journey continues to Ahmedabad, where Le Corbusier’s work exists within a much broader architectural landscape shaped by Indian modernism, traditional building practices and the city’s distinctive cultural history.

We then explore Jaipur, offering a fascinating contrast between an eighteenth-century planned city and the modernist planning principles of the twentieth century.
